How to Let College Know Level of Interest in Essay?

For many colleges' supplements in the essay/short answers usually ask to elaborate on why you want to attend a certain college. For my first choice, my counselor told me to literally write that the school was my first choice after giving a brief explanation (like the campus, professors, atmosphere, etc etc). Is this a good idea? I'm already applying EDII to a school so I clearly have a high level of interest in it, but is that enough?

Has anyone done this before and has it helped/hurt them?

The idea is to show why you are a fit there. Some go with purely academic reasons (classes, curricuum philosophy, profs, research opps, etc) and some include the social fit (eg, a kid who wants to sing in the chorus, run track, whatever.) Show you know the school, what it will offer you and what you offer them, in return. It’s more than a rehash of their rep and mission, status, anything superficial. Good Luck.
