how to let MDs write impressive letters

i am shadowing a physician in his clinic right now, and i am thinking about asking him for a recommendation for me.

however, what i have basically done is to listen to the conversation between him and his patients, and sometimes ask him some questions if i don't understand. besides that, i would observe some diagonistic tests that he does to patients.

i don't know how other premeds shadow physicians. is there any further step that i can take? i am only a premed. i definitley can not listen to the patients or do some diagnostic test for patients by myself.

but if i continue to do what i have done as listed above, i doubt the MD can write an impressive letter for me.

any suggestions?

and how do you guys shadow your physicians?

is MD letter more influencial than others such as the director of EMS?

thanks!1

Medical schools aren't really interested in letters you've accumulated from volunteering and shadowing. If you do your undergraduate work at Duke, for example, they want three from professors and one from your boss while you did research.
