How to list extracurriculars?

I have a question about breaking down e.c's. I've been my school's marching band since 9th grade. In 11th grade and this year, I'm the drum major (leader of the band). I'm not really sure how to record that on the application though (UC). Would I put "Marching Band" as the title of the activity and under the description put that I am head drum major? Or would I put "Drum Major of the Marching Band" as the activity?

Same sort of question with Jazz Band. I've been in it since 9th grade, but only first chair since 11th grade. Would I title it "Jazz Band" and in the description put that I was first chair? Or title it "First chair trumpet in Jazz Band" ?

Sorry if any of that was confusing. I appreciate any feedback.

Depends on how many activities you list - you could do music: instrumental and group it all there (and use the additional information section to elaborate), or separate out Marching Band from Jazz Band, and list drum major as one of your achievements/leadership positions. In parentheses you could note which grades.

^ I agree with Poohbah29. First check how many activities you have. List the positions as suggested above. Pool similar ones together if necessary and rank the EC by importance to you. Put the most important ones on top. The adcom may loose interest after reading first few if nothing really exciting. Try to get their positive first impression.
