How to make a successful application essay??

I've received some application for BS and I was wondering what I should include in my essay to make be magnific...
I so scare!!

START THE ESSAY EARLY!!!
Write the essay
Edit it yourself
Give it to as many college educated people as possible
Use their tips

Thats what I did, and if I do say so myself, MY ESSAY BEASTED!

How long was yours/anyone’s?

mine was super short, but REALLY abstract and wierd and out there. i think it’s quality over quantity as usual.

Just write it (without grammatical errors and with good vocabulary of course) in your style, and about something that matters to you (and to be frank, choose an impressive topic. Sell yourself). If you’re funny, add some humor. If you’re deep, be metaphorical. The reason behind these essays is to allow the admissions officers to get a sense of what you’re like and what’s important to you.

I agree, edit your essay many times before you send it in. Make sure there are no typos, no grammatical errors, no spelling mistakes. Try reading it backwards - or out loud.

Thxss guys that really help especiall cc23. So if I quite follow I should include some of my personal experiences and sell myself…But should I tell them about my some of my honors or talents in the essay?/

Thanks, guys!

lindha - find a way to incorporate it! Saying it bluntly might be off-topic and kind of arrogant sounding.

lemons.can.fly-u r right but wat skool r u attendin?

I still have yet to apply! So everything I’m saying is either a) a collection of what I’ve heard others say or b) what would make logical sense. So take it with a grain of salt, I guess. I’m definitely applying to Andover, Exeter, SPS; I’m thinking about Choate, Deerfield, Hotchkiss, and mayyybe possibly Loomis or Milton.

because u r still applyin doesnt mean that what u r sayin is is a grain of salt. It is really helpful do me IDK about the others.
Andover Exeter or SPS have a dress code?

I know Exeter’s is very professional, and Andover’s is more laid back.

I’m totally assuming from your name that you’re a girl (sorry if you’re not), and dress codes, even in places like Exeter, aren’t very strict for girls (I asked a friend who goes to Exeter).

I’M a girl…=)
I like school with dress code is much easier to know what kind of chothes to buy.
do u know anythin about SPS and Choate too?

SPS has a semi formal dress code…(or at least i consider it to be so) it’s not as strict as the handbook says but you do have to dress nice for class and the formal dinners…pretty much anything goes on the weekends!

I’ve nearly finished my Deerfield application essay, and have a good idea for my short answer  How long should the short answer be?

Andover doesn’t have any dress code at all. Exeter does but it isn’t enforced. I’ve never been to St. Paul’s but I’ve heard it’s like a “virtual JCrew catalogue” so I assume there’s some kind of casual dress code.

boarderkid i guess as long as the space provided…

boarderkid how long is ur essay?

It’s spilling over a page, and I haven’t even started to conclude! :/

I really like the suggestion to read it backwards. I’d never thought/ heard of that, but it really is ingenious!
