personally, I think it is very hard to share stats and call it bragging. Likewise, it is hard to complain about your own and call it lagging.

If I have learned anything in my life, it is that no matter how good you are, no matter what you have accomplished, there IS ALWAYS someone worse than you AND waaaay better than you out there.

Staying humble, but secure is the key I find.

Plus, I am seldom impressed or overwhelmed with what I read on these sites, because you never know what connections the person had to begin with. How did they get that amazing summer job or internship?? Who pulled the strings for them..mom or dad? That's cool and everything, I am just saying that when we all read things out of context on here, we jump to conclusions of greatness that are often just good ol' smoke and mirrors.

So unless you know the whole story, don't read stats on here and feel insecure. Have faith in yourself and what you have accomplished, especially those of you who have had to chart your own path and network from scratch.

you are right. but unfortunately, society works like that.

I had to work from scratch though.By saying the word scratch I mean learning English as a freshman in highschool. So I experienced more of these s**t. While some of you may feel bad about not getting into Ivys, Even UC Santa Cruz closed its door on me despite my relatively high stats.

Well, I pulled through, and I found the above poster said absolutely right. There is nothing else you can do besides fight your way up.

hey blackdream, i just agreed with you on another posting! weird.

yeah, I had to start from scratch too and I think we can take a lot of pride from the fact that we have truly done it ourselves.

Society does work like that, but I honestly think it will make us stronger people and more effective leaders in the future.

Think of Clinton. He made it himself.

Think of this application process as a war.

You are alone on the battlefield, no one can be truly trusted, and all you can do is fight.

We cannot predict our future.
We cannot change our past.
But we have our present.
