I’m currently a freshmen and I know I will do good with my academic but I’m not sure hot to make my EC look good.
how man years do I need to be in a sports team for? I’m planning to join my school’s dance team (which is pretty famous in my district) but I I do that I won’t have time for sports so I’m not sure which year I should join sports and dance team or just stick to one. (I’m currently not in any sports team or anything)
As for clubs, I’m in 3 clubs right now, which is key club, mock trial, poly ohanna(Hawaiian dance), I probably might be able to be selected in some position for mock trial and most likely just a member for the other clubs.
What should I join for the rest of my high school years? What clubs should I stay in?
Pretty sure dance is a sport, but even if it isn’t, joining dance and staying committed counts as a good EC. As a freshman, you should join as many clubs are possible and then decide which you like enough to continue throughout high school.
Also join the rest of the HS Class of 2019 here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/1746601-high-school-class-of-2019.html
@IAmNotCreativ I definatley think dance qualifies as a sport. (And I also have some friends who are competitive dancers who might beat me up if I said otherwise haha)
Regardless, EC’s are about having fun doing what you are passionate about. Don’t worry what adcomms will think. (I know, it’s hard) Do what you love the best you can and your passion will shine through. That’s the type of person colleges really want.
@Madeline25 Okayy so I don’t have to be like the president or any position for a lot of clubs or something? Ohh and my goal is to get in a UC
Quality over quanity is key here. If holding a position in that club is something you want to do, by all means do it! If it’s not, you’re not obliged to hold leadership in every club at your school. I do think it is good to hold a few leadership positions in clubs that are meaningful to you though. Colleges see right through attempts to ‘pad’ your resume with things that you do just to impress them. Of course the more quality the better!
You don’t need to have positions in a bunch of clubs, but leadership positions do look nice. You should participate in ECs that you like, as was previously mentioned by other posters.
