Okay, I'm a girl with big dreams and absolutely no idea what I'm doing. I want to go to a selective college, but I don't know how to make myself stand out. I'm always reading posts from kids who have 2400 SATs, are president of a zillion clubs, and have lots of volunteer hours. I'm from a small school in a small town, come from a very modest economic background, and I just can't compare to all these amazing people. What do I do to make colleges notice me as a real contender?
STATS:
SAT: 660 CR 650 M 670 W (first time taking but hopefully will improve) *214 PSAT if that counts for anything
GPA: 4.252 weighted, including senior year classes
APs- junior Year I took psychology and apush (both 5s) this year I'm taking European history, bio, us govt, environmental science, and literature
Rank: 3rd in a class of approx 150
ECs- SCA secretary, Beta club treasurer, interact club VP, drug prevention club president, majorette captain in marching band, forensics team (regional champ sophomore year), and I work retail part time
Gender: F
Ethnicity: white
State: WV (I attend high school in VA)
Thank you all so much for your help. I'm especially interested in Davidson College, but would love to go somewhere even more prestigious (a girl can dream!).

Honestly, you’re a lot more competitive than you say you are. Being 3rd in your class is SPECTACULAR, and your over-2000 SAT will help you out tremendously. At worst, WVU’s a safety; at best, you can get a few Ivies in there.

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1549053-columbia-ed-will-chance-back-within-12-hours.html

It is wonderful to have big dreams!
To me, the drug prevention club president position and the forensics team participation sound really interesting! You should talk about what you did in relation to those clubs. If any of your ECs are related to what you want to pursue in college, you should write about that, too! The key is to make your application unique, a prerequisite for admissions. However, you should probably work on raising that SAT score, as well.
Keep it up and don’t let your dreams go to waste!

Davidson: Reach

Now, go find matches and safeties…

Movieman- thank you so much! You’re too sweet. Will do my best to chance back (like I said, I have no idea what I’m doing)
Stormcloud- Great advice I will definitely keep it in mind.
Catria- thank you so much, but can you elaborate a little more? I want to know what I can do to increase my chances and turn those reaches into matches!
