How to make the term valedictorian meaningless

I stick with the definition from Merriam Webster dictionary.

Take a look at Merriam Webster’s “Full definition of valedictorian” under the definition you quoted.

:the student usually having the highest rank in a graduating class who delivers the valedictory address at the commencement exercises.

Note the inclusion of the word usually.
