I'm taking my first AP class next year. My school is only allowing me to take one. I know that's nothing to a lot of people on here but I really want to prepare myself to be able to keep up with the class and possibly 8 others during the school year. I also want to develop good work ethics in general to prepare myself for the years after that where I can take several AP classes at once. I just wanted to know what tips any of you have when it comes to keeping up with AP classes. I'm taking AP Gov. I'm thinking about buying a Princeton Review book to help me with the class during the school year. If I end up wanting to buy the book then should I get the 2013 version? I already got the textbook and have to take notes on the first chapter as part of the summer assignment. Would it be a good idea to try and take notes beyond the first chapter? And what are some tips for taking good notes in general? Not so much HOW to take the notes but maybe some things to keep in my mind when taking notes or what I should and shouldn't write..if that makes sense.

Buy a review book if you would like

Really, it isn’t a big deal at all, depending on the teacher/school of course.

But AP Courses are nothing more than glorified honors ones (with the exception of a few) and the workload is less than expected at worst

^^Thank you!

I feel like I’m overthinking how difficult the course might be

Ap classes are really not that bad no matter what anybody says. Many people who haven’t taken one tried to persuade me that they were awful but I took them anyways and was delighted. Just take it like any class and as long as your not lazy, you will succeed. Heck, even I was lazy and ended up with Bs in my AP classes. Good luck!

You will be fine as long as you are willing to put in the work and review for the AP exam.

I took AP gov last year. I think i did pretty well on it. The best thing you can do is have a good teacher. Make make sure to read the text and supplementary material. Answer questions given in the book ( like would you make national election day a holiday? Why?). Make sure you understand the main concepts, key vocab, and famous bills and court decisions that had large implications ( plessy vs fergusen). I’m personally not much of a note taker. Don’t memorize info or read text without comprehending it. Repeating known facts is not a high form of intellect. You need to understand it. The AP exam was more of a logic text. You need to remember the big stuff, but don’t get consumed in every bill that has been passed or every court decision that’s been made. Develop points of view on the decisions discussed…I could go on but all I’m telling you to do is THINK. I found the AP exam to be easy. We didn’t have time to do the past few sections and I never actually took notes. If you understand the material after reading it, you’ll be fine. I diEdn’t even have to read an AP review book ( mostly because I was too focused on cramming for AP bio). Enjoy the class…I liked it a lot!
