How to memorize over 3,000 vocabulary words in 2 months.

Anybody want to know the secret?

impossible

are you kidding me? I know ppl studying the 'dictionary' who are doing it under two months- not hard at all when you consider that half the words in the dictionary are useless and most ppl know half the words in the other half. These kids aren't nerds either. But they figure it would really help with them with the writing/CR sections. 3000 words is nothing.

You can study it, but I'm guessing you'll only remember about 200 of them.

memorizing words from the dictionary is dumb and useless.

the hit list from the SAT books...now, that's a good use of time.

so, what's the secret?

Yeah, but most of the SAT words are useless, as no one else will know them. You might as well be speaking yittish

yiDDish? :)

a lot of the SAT words are helpful though...for writing essays and such. i actually find myself remembering them. plus, they're helpful for the actual SAT. right?

they r important but they r never on the test

"Anybody want to know the secret?"- J. Shi

I want to know the secret!

ok, am i missing out on something? so NONE of them are EVER on the test?

Sorry guys, I posted this too early.

Let me tell you the secret after I take the SAT in October.

That way, all you guys can bring the curve up without bringing my score down.

Sorry.

dude there's no 'secret' to learning words. You learn roots, prefixes and suffixes. Then you learn the words and form your own sentences. Noone is going to need your 'secret.'

You realize that only about .0001% of test takers look here, and have no effect on the curve? Not that your little secret will really help much most likely...but that you are probably overthinking this whole matter.

Curves are determined before tests are administered.

Looking through the dictionary - - - that's the stupiest thing I've ever heard in my life.

At least use Sparknote's or Barron's list...seriously.

Yeah man, the curves are determined by giving the test to a bunch of college kids beforehand.

The SAT has a lot of questions for which knowing how to analyze context and how that influences the meaning of a word is MUCH more important than memorizing the usual meanings of words. You get better at those questions by reading widely.

Barron's has a 3500 word list. There are 50 lists for the 3500 words. Memorize a list a day and dedicate a day reviewing every 3-5 lists. That should be approximately, if not a little more than 2 months. A good vocabulary not only helps you with the CR section, but also writing and success in the future.

how can the curve be determined beforehand by college kids? rnt they gonna tell their lil brotehrs and sisters whats gonna be on the test?!

there is someone on the CC who memorizes out of the dic. last time i checked he/she was at F
