<p>Cost, availability and strength of academics in your intended or possible major(s), personal factors.</p>
<p>Start by finding a safety that you like that you are certain to be admitted to and are certain you can afford. Minimum of one, but many here recommend more than one in case you change your mind about desirability or misestimate the safety-ness of the school.</p>
<p>Eliminate schools that you would not choose over your safety.</p>
<p>Eliminate schools that are too expensive (check the net price calculator and check for merit scholarships).</p>
<p>Eliminate schools that do not have worthwhile academic offerings in your intended or possible major(s).</p>
