How to obtain a volunteering position?

Right now I'm Key Club President and I'm having a hard time finding volunteering opportunities for my club members.

I found one but I think I got rejected haha. Anyways, I started off by saying, "Hey, I came across your site and it seems like a very good volunteering opportunity so I'm hoping that you guys have volunteering positions open." and the staff replied by saying, "No, I don't think so." but she gave me another number to call.... Did I say something wrong? And it really seemed like a great opportunity too..

Where do you guys generally look for more opportunites around your area? Do you guys call them, email them, or go to their place and talk to them face-to-face? What do you guys say to them that makes them want you as a volunteer?

Lol... hopefully I will get better at this! :D

My region's YMCA website has a list of volunteering opportunites, times, requirements, etc.

You should check yours. Or just google '_____ volunteering opportunities', filling the blank in with your area.

And maybe they just didn't have a need for any more volunteers?

It doesn't matter how you ask. You're volunteering your own free time to help out, not applying for a job position...
