Two colleges have requested IRS tax transcript since they dont accept privately mailed taxes 2011. When I called IRS I was told that transcript will be available after tax return will be put deposited on my account.
Since I mailed my taxes at the end of Feb , when I could expect to receive a transcript? Pl, advice what is the fastest way to obtain this very essential document? It a crucial time when colleges give awards and its so pity to miss it.

You can check every day at the link below. It will take up to a week to receive in the mail once you can request it.

Most, if not all, will accept the IRS retrieval through FAFSA.That would be the quickest as once it is available, you can process an updated FAFSA and the schools would have access to it right away. Check with the schools if that is acceptable.

I don’t think the colleges need the transcript in order to make awards decisions. They’ll need it before they actually disburse the funds though. That’s my understanding.

I walked into my local IRS office on Thursday and got a copy of my tax return transcript in under five minutes. I had to enter my SS# in a keypad and show a picture ID. Good luck getting yours soon!

Oh - and the school that requested mine definitely wanted it before they could send a financial aid package.
