Although i am only freshman i have always wanted to go to West Point. I have been doing a lot of research but on their website they talk about a Letter of Encouragement from admissions for overnight visits?? what is it and how do i obtain it?

This is just something that is given to those that apply that have a good shot of getting in—a letter of encouragement that they give that says you might get accepted, and they ask you to visit to show you what it
s like. You get it if you have an exceptionally strong file. They haven
t been giving out too many.

Any other questions, just ask.

Thanks! Also… what are sponsor families…something about surrogate families…?

Plebes have the opportunity to sign up for the sponsor program, where people sponsor the plebes, and the plebes have a place to go and hang out, relax, and just chill out. Here`s a good read: [USMA sponsors - United States of America Service Academy Forums](http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/showthread.php?t=16678)

thanks you have been a big help

As you apply to WP during your senior year, they may offer a chance for an overnight visit to candidates who seem interested and have excellent applications. It is too early to apply when you are just a h.s. freshman, but that doesn’t mean you can’t visit with your parents, talk with current cadets and get a better understanding of what all this involves.

Many of the service academies also sponsor sports camps during the summer which gives you another opportunity to learn more about their programs and interact with coaches.

The other forum site mentioned above has far more participants so you might also look there to read the replies to the most commonly asked topics, since the same subjects come up each year.
