How to offset bad grades?

Hi guys,

I come from Singapore. Instead of getting a GPA at the end of high school, most of us sit for the 'A' Level examinations. I did badly for it. (I'm talking Cs and Ds)

The general consensus seems to be that GPA/'A' Levels and SAT I/SAT IIs are measures of different qualities. (motivation/hard work vs ability)

Sat I - 2300(superscored)

Sat II
Physics - 800
Math II - 760
Chemistry - 780

Is there any way I can improve on the grades aspect of my application? (APs or internships)

Also, what range of schools would be realistic matches for me?

Thanks!

Anyone?

If it helps, my ECs are average. No presidencies etc.

I have very good recommendations and essays though.

What schools are you looking at?

That’s the thing, I’m not quite sure where I fit in. Would schools like NYU, Michigan, Duke, Chicago be too far out of reach?

I don’t exactly understand how the grading system works, but it seems like those schools probably would be out of reach, especially since you are an international student. Your scores are good, but it’s hard to make up for bad grades since most schools consider them as the most important part of your application, and there are many qualified applicants applying with better grades

Would there be any way to ‘shore up’ this deficit?
