hey guys,
newly admitted transfer here. my move in date for Unit 2 is next week and I have no idea what to bring! it said on the flyer that people are moving tons of stuff in, while I, on the other hand, have no idea what to bring. suggestions?

bring things you need to live on your own and study. hygiene stuff, school stuff, laptop/desktop, bed sheets and pillow, clothes, personal items. there is no required list

i’m thinking of buying a fridge and putting it in the dorms. I saw that they’re renting out fridges but they cost 130+ each, isn’t it about the same if I buy one?

any recommendations?

Actually mini-fridges cost less (Costco, etc…). Even though you’re dorming, bring a plunger.

a plunger for the bathroom??

yes. they get clogged so often. I dunno how I could have lived there last year without one.

And where do you gentlemen/ladies recommend one keep ones plunger, especially after the inevitable first plunge?

a television, you are paying for cable anyways

Keep the plunger somewhere in the bathroom, in a plastic bag or something to cover. Just tell your roommates it’s there if anyone needs it. Ethernet cable is another (always good to have one). Bringing the minimum is better, especially when you move out of the dorms.

when do building/room assignments come out??

@blueducky [UC Berkeley Room Assignment Information](UC Berkeley Room Assignment Information)

Sign in for building and roommate info.

i already got the building/roommate info, i’m talking about the floor/room numbers sorry.

Anybody have any info on DCR/TiVo for the room?

Do we need a router?

You’ll know the room number when they hand you the key.

so for TV ( since i’m paying for the cable already), what size is adequate?
oh yeah, and I heard they don’t allow you to bring your own fridge? you have to rent theirs?

@truucharms> Bring some colorful posters. As a transfer you’ll probably be living in Wada. The walls and ceilings are concrete (yes, even the ceilings). I picked up a multi-wavelength desk lamp to keep my spirits up when I lived there. As far as TVs go, if it’s for the common area you should make sure that no one else is already bringing one. a 20" works fine (although larger is always better).

room assignments in the buildings are not first come, first serve, are they? why don’t they tell you where exactly you are ahead of time?

^ I have the same question.

They already have determined your room numbers, they just have not yet released them. My friend who is an RA told me he hasn’t even been told who his residents will be (he knows what rooms he reigns over though).
