how to pay for NYU

Hi all,

I got admitted to MS in Information Systems at NYU for Fall 2009 and was wondering if NYU had any financial aid options. All I could find was the on campus jobs. Don't they have any research or teaching assistant positions which can help pay for the tuition? I am an international student and so federal aid and other similar aid is ruled out. I really want to go to NYU but tution fees alone would come around 50k for 2 years. Even if I leave frugally I think I will atleast need 1k per month for my rent and other expenses. Is there any external scholarship or research which can help me? My family can help me with a max of 10k per year. Also do you think it would be wise to graduate from NYU with a loan of 60-70k at the end of 2 years?

Thanks in advance

NYU is stingy with aid, and taking out huge loans to go there wouldn’t be worth it. Your likelihood of getting significantly more is close to nil.

My advice is to do what other students I know have done: Select another college to go to that is more financially feasible. One such student is heading off to a top 20 school for grad school after turning down NYU for a full ride to his state flagship.

I would have to agree with the other posters. I have a client who’s daughter was accepted to NYU. Unfortunately, NYU only covers 75% of need and the rest become the families responsibility. NYU would have cost them $25,000/year. There were a few other colleges she applied to that gave better packages so she is going to them.

Did you apply for an assistantship?

Vedika,

You may want to post this question at the Grad Student Forum. Someone there may have experience with getting assistantships at NYU.

I’m in love with NYU also, but the tuition is wayyyyy too much!
