How to pay?

So as of right now RHIT is number one on my list of colleges. I would love to be able to go there, but there is one very large problem: tuition. RHIT is up to approximately $50,000 in total tuition and there is no way I would be able to pay even near that. I've heard that merit-based scholarships will only really get a max of 12k, which still doesn't bring it down very far. I'm not positive on need based. RHIT has sounded like everything I would want in a school (even though I haven't visited it yet) and I would love to be able to go there. With my brother paying about $16,000 for IIT, I might be forced to go there (even though I don't really want to). I have a better record than my brother and would probably be getting even more aid from there. Is there any hope for me going to RHIT? I want to go into Chemical Engineering there and I am an Illinois resident. Thank you for any help or encouragement.

According to the Common Data Set (page 20) the average student receiving financial aid received a $20,000 grant as part of a $31,500 financial aid package:

Depending on your family’s financial situation, you may get a better financial aid package than you might think.

Good luck.

dadinator, so wait, does that mean that I can get up to 31,500 in financial aid? If so, that would be WONDERFUL! I’m really unsure on how the whole financial aid stuff goes. I imagine you would know A LOT more about it than me. So thanks for any help.

Salve! all I can say is submit your application and fill out the FAFSA and wait for the financial aid package in April. There’s a huge range of options. I know some peoiple who get full rides scholarships, and plenty of people who have taken out massive amounts of student loans. That number dadinator is throwing out there means the average student got a $20 000 grant/year (don’t repay) and $11 500 in loans, etc…/year that they will have to repay.

Haha, thanks nic767, that probably would be the simplest and best thing to do.

O_O The $31,500 financial package (even if that contained a $11,500 loan) would be so phenomenal that words cannot describe it. I can only hope I get that when it comes to financial aid time!
