Hello - I've paid for SATs several times, but never used the free score reports. I'm trying to register my son for the October 5th test, but it never asks what schools to send scores to. I seem to remember from older son that if you don't pick the schools during registration, you can't send them free. Can someone please explain how it works. It LOOKS to me like now you can pick the schools after you pay, but I don't want to make a $50 mistake.

ok so it’s been awhile since i applied to college (i’m going to be a sophomore) but i think it works like this: you have the option to choose which schools to send your scores when you’re taking the test. it’s free for 4 colleges i think but it can be risky because it means that you don’t know what the scores are until after they’re sent to the colleges. but if you’re sure that you did well, then that’s a good thing.
if you want to wait until after you know what your scores are, then you can just go to collegeboard.org and send scores from there. you can send all the scores that you’ve ever gotten for one price but only for one school at a time.
when i was trying to send my scores, i talked to my guidance counselor and was able to get extra fee waivers (because my family made a limited income) and was able to save some money that way.

I know we want to send them with his next test because the scores he already has are pretty good. But when I signed him up, it didn’t ask for me to pick schools, and it seemed like once I put in my credit card info. I’d be done. Can you pick schools for free any time up until test day?
