Alrighty guys, I am using this summer to learn new things. I would like to get more credits put on my college applications because I got a lower grade than expected in my trig class (due to extenuating circumstances). So I am looking at placing out of classes like French 1 (So that I would have reached an AP level in one language and level 2 in another), Computer Math and Stat (to hopefully offset my Trig grade), and Earth Science (I skipped it and went straight to higher level science, but I know the material). How could I prove that I know the material like is there a competency test that I could take to get the credit and not have the class? Thanks I would love to happen open slots in my schedule and continue my governor’s school program.
That’s a question that can only be answered by someone at your school.
In my school, it does NOT happen by self study. Once you’re admitted as a freshman, the only way to get credit for a course is to spend 180 days in class learning the material, passing the tests and quizzes. Period.
Your school may be different. Only your guidance counselor can tell you.
I second asking your school. My high school is the same - if you want credit you need to take a school approved class no matter what you teach yourself.
So a few things:
As said above, this is a question for your school.
Secondly, you are conflating placing out with being awarded credit. A school may have a challenge exam that allows you to place out of French 1(or intro CS or whatever), but in almost all cases, that only means that you get to got to French 2 (or CS 2). It is very rare that credit will be awarded. In general, the only way credit is awarded is to take a class.
