How to prep for reading test?

I took Sylvan's Advanced Reading Course, which helped me reading a bit faster(did not prepare me for reading material as hard as ACT's) and to help me get a better score but I only went up by one point. I also bought the Princeton Review's Reading Smart. I thought it would be as easy as improving in math and english are(went from a 21 to a 29 in english) but I'm not sure how to better prep myself for it.
Does anyone know of some books that I could read to help prepare me for the reading test? I wish the princeton review or something had a collection of act reading material or something.

I had the same problem. For the english, I think I’m set. But for the reading portions, I tried the Princeton Review approach of skimming. I don’t like to skim. I am somewhat of a perfectionist and I want to really get the feel for a passage. I say the best thing to do is to read the passage, even if it takes about 5-6 minutes. When you feel comfortable about the passage, you can breeze through the questions in like 2 minutes. Leave skimming as a last resort, like if you just started the last passage and the 5 minute warning was just called. Just face it, some us can’t use the skimmming techniques because we never use it when doing our homework at school. It is a “reading” section.

You need to read it and make it feel interesting.

Speed reading is truly a blessing. If you have the ability to read fast, you’ll do good on the reading portion.

what if your totally horrible at speed reading and skimming… then what?

the best books for reading better? i know the NY Times has a list…

Do you read in your spare time (Sports Illustrated, Harry Potter, Oprah’s Book Club, Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader or basically anything else with words placed in an organized way)? If you do this will help. It really helped me… I think I went up six points over two tests. Oh and take the test several times (I did 4 times); it is fairly inexpensive and getting used to the formatting and timing is a blessing.
