How to prepare for ACT??

Hey, Im an SAT guy. What do ACT people have to study? Do they have something like the SAT Blue Book? What else is there? (real tests, practice tests, etc.) thanks

There’s the ACT red book, which is basically the equivalent of the blue book.
The only real differences are that (a) you need to know how to analyze scientific data, which the SAT doesn’t even care about and (b) you need slightly more advanced mathematics, up to the trig level, to complete the math section.

Ok, I question the “more advanced math” thing.

On the ACT, the math is up to trig level, where the SAT is only about up to Algebra II level.
However, the actual questions on the SAT are much harder than the questions on the ACT.
The ACT is all about good timing.

ACT math is cake, but then so is SAT o.o

I guess I make more mistakes on SAT because of wording, etc… it’s trickier. ACT is more straightforward

Honestly, the math sections on both exams are pretty easy, so as long as you’ve been paying attention during math class, you should do fine.

Not really… The Math SAT is practically worthless and doesn’t show anything at all. For the ACT, everything that you’ve learned contributes to your score.

cjgone, it is not practically worthless.

It shows a person’s true math intelligence, not just what they have learned.

If the Math SAT was worthless, colleges wouldn’t accept SAT math scores.

I would even venture on to say that ACT math is more worthless than SAT math. SAT is a reasoning test. A college wants their graduates to be successful after they have graduated, so they want that person to be intelligent. Since the SAT is much more intelligence based than ACT, it is more worthy to colleges. It shows abilty, not just achievement.

cjgone, you are probably one of those idiots who can’t do SAT math because they are not smart enough, and I laugh at you for that, you idiot

This intelligience you talk about is worthless. Knowing more and actually having a skill-set from hard work is much more important. I don’t care about people who have perfect little lives born with high IQs-- they mean nothing to me or society. It’s the hardworking people that matter and that is what is more important. The ACT tests knowledge from what you’ve learned; the SAT tries to obfuscate everything for no reason, consequently test nothing.

Achievement > intellect. I hate smart people, they’re a diseaseto society anyway. This world would be better with only the ACT and an equal playing field for everyone. I hate people like you. You think you’re somehow better because you were a lazy nothing for your whole-sad life and you think you deserve some credit for it.

Nothing personal

other than the Red Book you said what else is there

Why are achievement and intellect exclusive? Does one not precede the other?

I think you’re both being quite condescending to one another for no apparent reason, so how about we get back to the original topic?

The Real Act test prep is similar to the actual testing and will help increase your score with alot of practice.

“I hate people like you. You think you’re somehow better because you were a lazy nothing for your whole-sad life and you think you deserve some credit for it.”

I’m not one of those people. I wish the ACT was the only test available, but it isn’t. In the real world people are simply more able than others. The SAT is only recognizing that.

And I’m sorry for calling you an idiot…I was just kinda ticked by you saying it was worthless and correcting me and such.

how do you practice from the red book? isn’t it just taking tests and going over them?

pretty much

not much good subject review in that book

To learn concepts for the ACT, I like the Princeton Review book in addition to the practice tests from the Red Book.

ok what else offers REAL or practice tests other than the Red book and PR book whitesox just mentioned

Well nothing offers official tests except red book and ACT online prep

prep provides two extra tests :)

$20 though :(

Kaplan is another standard ACT book, btw

Has anybody used the ACT online course? How is it?

Well, I feel like PR gives really accurate practice tests. I always scored a 31-33 Composite on their tests, and on the actual ACT in June I got a 32. I took a practice test before and after studying, and PR alone allowed me to jump 7 points. I feel like it’s one of the best for ACT, but that’s just my opinion.

Wait what is this PR thing you speak of?
