How important is the GRE for biomedical admissions? Does math or verbal or the essay matter more?

Which books can you suggest to use for it? Thanks

It’s important not to get a bad score, mostly. Marginal differences in high scores won’t make an iota of difference to an application.

Competitive scores for top programs might be around >600 verbal and >700 quantitative. Overall, you might aim to score at or above the 75th percentile on your general GRE sections, and at or above about 80th-85th on the subject test. (These are very wiggly numbers, and it’s certainly possible to get into top programs with scores significantly lower than these, given the right combination of mitgating factors.)

It’s important to have a good GRE score, but it’s significantly more important to have outstanding research experience and letters of recommendation.

As for books, I used them all. As one of the postdocs in my lab says (though she says it more colorfully), why mess around?
