What are the best ways to prepare for the Putnam in December? Any books you recommend?

This may be a dumb question, but what exactly is Putnam?

^it is a math competition

Haha. This is probably not the right subforum for it. Then again, I don’t think this is the right forum at all for the question. It’d help if you worked on some IMO kind of stuff. Alternatively, there are some great problem solving, some were written by past Putnam winners. You can also look at Art of Problem Solving.

At the very least you could look at the past Putnam problems, they come with solutions. Take a few days and see if you can solve a problem or two, then take a look at the solutions. There are enough problems to keep you busy for a long time…

Putnam is also a major fianncial firm here in NY. I take it this thread is not about them…

Why on earth would it be about a business firm in NY? This is the engineering forum.

Haha, harsh.

I thought I should add that if you find you can’t solve any of the problems… well you’re not really meant to. The average number of points I believe every year is 0-2 out of 120.
