Can you guys recommend really good prep books?
I am gonna self-study and retake the test on october.
Thanks

PR AP Chem book, Spark notes practice tests, and what I remembered from AP Chem got me an 800.

well. i dont want to use the ap chem prep book. I want to use the SAT prep book. Do you guys recommend any particular one?

The best preparation is an actual course. I took AP, and it prepared me pretty well. Some kids in my class didn’t really study for the Chem SAT IIs and got in the high 700’s/800.

However, being the nerd I am, I studied a bit. I used the Barrons book. The Barrons book might crush your confidence while studying. I consistently scored what they said was a 780 and had slight difficulties solving the math questions due to the no calculator policy. On the actual SAT II, I felt ridiculously good after the test. I finished with about 20 minutes left and thought it was insanely easy, despite being sick (I was coughing up crap throughout the test. ): ). There were maybe 6 questions that I was only 90% sure about–you get the picture. I got an 800.

Anyhow, the overprepping is actually a really good confidence booster on test day. If you’re taking other SAT IIs, take chem first if you used the Barrons book. You’ll be pumped and ready to go for your other SAT IIs.

trust me the pr sat chem book is not as good as the pr ap chem book. but if you really want to get an 800 and not rely on luck like i did barrons is your best bet. i thought it was too dense and boring so i never picked it up but i heard that it will give you an 800.

The Barrons book is pretty comprehensive. Just do the practice tests, look at the multitude of questions that you will get wrong, and look at the solutions to those questions. If you understand what you did wrong, alright. If you don’t, read the section about what you got wrong.

Also! Study lab apparatus. The Barrons book pounds it into you on the practice tests. Lab apparatus did show up on the actual SAT II for about 2 questions. I was happy to know how to do those questions.

i got a kaplan book, do you think it is good as well?

Barrons + Princeton Review for Chemistry got me an 800. I read through the Barrons book entirely and did all the practice problems in the PR book, and then I took all the practice tests.
