How to prepare for Wellesley interview?

Hi!
So I’m usually not the best at interviews, so I’m really trying to make this one good.
What questions do alumni typically ask? Will I need to dress fancy?

Thanks!

I haven’t interviewed with Wellesley yet, but I’m pretty sure their interview will be like most others. They’ll probably ask questions about your goals and ambitions, what you want to major in, what ECs you’re involved in, maybe even why you think a women’s college is a good fit for you.
Don’t be nervous (easier said than done, I know)! You can probably find lots of practice interview questions online, so you might want to run through those with your parents or a friend or sibling. I’d also try listing some qualities that you have or some ECs that are really important to you and just think about what you want to say about them. This will help you sound prepared, but you don’t want to memorize anything (I know it’s tempting but it might make you sound less genuine). As for clothing, I’d go with semi-formal. Maybe a blouse and some nice pants?

Hope your interview goes well! I’m really excited to apply to Wellesley, it’s such a fantastic school!

@ladyfrooti Thanks so much! Your answer was so detailed  Are you going to Discovery Wellesley in about a month?

@PaigeyPoo189 I applied for a travel grant, so hopefully yes! I live on the West Coast so my parents aren’t really up for flying all the way out their unless I get accepted :frowning:

My daughter’s interviewer (on campus) was professionally dressed–an A-line skirt, heels, and matching jacket. My daughter wore a (less formal) skirt and blouse with flats and it felt about right.

Come prepared with a couple of questions to ask the interviewer, because they inevitably ask “So, do you have any questions for me?” It’s nice to be prepared for that as opposed to an awkward no.

@redpoodles thank you, I will keep that in mind!

@ladyfrooti That sucks, I hope you can go! I live by the Northeast so my parents didn’t mind spending the money for a plane ride.

I would also look at Wellesley’s website to prepare - you want to have something to say when you are asked “why you are interested specifically in Wellesley.” You also don’t want to ask questions that would be answered by minimal research. (how many students, is my intended major offered, for example)

^^^ Agreed. Ask an intelligent question, or one that gets your interviewer to describe what it’s really like to be at Wellesley from her perspective (assuming your interviewer is a student, which I think is usually the case if you do it on campus).

I don’t think my D was asked “why Wellesley” but that’s the essay question in a nutshell and it’s really important to your application to be able to convey what appeals to you both verbally and on paper. Get to know that 100 Things About Wellesley book they will send you (it’s also online).
