I was wondering what would be the best way to present hobbies that you spend a lot of time on. I'm really lacking in ECs (only a couple clubs and some volunteering), but I really love webdesign. Should I include this in my essay or should I somehow put examples of work on a CD? My EC's look really bad because I tend to join up and then quit within the year, so I'd like to show that I'm not just lazy, I just spend my time elsewhere.

You should write about your hobbies in a resume, there's somewhere on CC that gives you guidelines in doing this.

Thanks! So this resume is separate from the rest of your application? Sorry if that's a stupid question.

yeah, it's separate, and you should show it to everyone who is going to write a recommendation for you so they'll have something to start off of.

^^ Yup. Make sure you give a copy of your resume (AKA brag sheet) to your teachers. Some people (like here on CC) might say colleges don't want them, but I think they're fine. They can only help you and shed more light on your ECs/passions.

Jeanne, here's a book that really helped me on my app:
"Rock Hard Apps: How to write a Killer College Application" by Katherine Cohen, PH.D. She was a private counselor, and she basically shows you ALL the steps to applying. It's really useful and it helps you with your resume. It even includes three case studies of people who seem "average" but after following her advice, look "amazing" on paper. I suggest you buy it ASAP. Good luck!

Thanks all. I'm going to try and get that book, venus.ajar

Well I know that my top EC was my favorite hobby and thus I ended up writing the personal statement on it which is definitely another way to share this information with greater detail.
