Do you usually buy new books or used books?

Where do you purchase books usually? (old and new)

Where do you purchase books usually? (old and new)

i’d say the three most popular places are:

cornell store (retail price)
kraftees (collegetown)
amazon (free shipping)

half.com, ebay

Will we be able to get the titles of our textbooks before orientation week? I really don’t want to pay full price at the Cornell Store and would rather order them online if I can (although I heard that Kraftees is reasonably priced?)

None of them are reasonably priced enough.

I actually MADE money on selling my books back to the Cornell Store after having bought them used on Amazon and Half.com

Wow. So, I guess ordering online is definitely the way to go! Although, I tend to highlight/write all over my books, so I doubt the Cornell Store will buy them from me at the end of the semester, lol. But will we know our books early enough to order them?

highlighting is ok

writing might be as long as it doesnt block the text

you can go to the cornell store website and search for ur booklist.

They don’t post the book list till like 10 days before freshman move in. At least that’s how it was last year. That’s still enough time to order online.

yea cuz class doesnt start until a week later.

the official book lists aren’t up, but the faculty lists are pretty accurate.

i did cornell store for a while because they always said they were cheapest, and even have a long essay about being the cheapest,

but then one semester i walked to kraftees to check it out, and the books were way cheaper, or at the very least 10 dollars cheaper everytime

also return policies i think are better at kraftees and such

i suggest just talking with both places or more places and seeing for yourself what the better deal is

I would say never buy it from the Cornell Store. Overpriced everytime. I would buy it online and then possibly sell it to the Cornell Store at the end of the semester (if you’re not planning on keeping them).

I only bought from the Cornell Store when I absolutely had to (ex. reading packets or custom editions). I mainly shopped from Amazon (free shipping and no tax!), half.com and Barnes and Noble b/c I have a membership card there. BN offers free and ridiculously fast shipping on most textbooks (When I lived in NY I had most deliveries in 2 days or less). BN is only worth it if you have the membership card, otherwise they’re almost as pricey as the Cornell Store.

the only good thing about cornell store is that you can use your CORNELL CARD there. you dont have to dish out cash then and there

and the late fees are only like 1.5%

How do they post book lists 10 days before? I thought you don’t even know which classes you will have until after leaving. And don’t they usually ask you to get books that you might not really need?

Upperclassmen know their schedule before summer even begins. And they dont ask u to get books you dont need… just books that the professors request. They also put optional or required next to each book.
