Hi I'm a junior and I'm hoping to get an 800 by November of next year. I recently took a practice test from College Board and received a 730 on critical reading. What is the best way to raise my score 70 points within the next 7 months? Will practice tests help? If so, which books should I buy? Please do not recommend the Collegeboard Bluebook. I've already completed all the CR passages in them.
I missed 5 questions on the passage reading, and 0 questions on the sentence completion. My current reading strategy: read passage, then answer questions.
Please give me any advice! Thanks!

For me, a 730 on a practice test is probably more like a 700 because my brain is completely destroyed in the morning and the pressure gets to me a little. But if you assume you can get a 730, raising it to 800 shouldn’t be much more work than buying the official college board review book and taking all of the reading tests. Reading then answering is a fine strategy and it’s how the test SHOULD be taken. I would also THINK about language. When you read, think about the structure and the sentences (it sounds like this is more writing practice, but I think it really helps your understanding). Finally, don’t worry too much about this first test (I’m assuming it’s your first test since you’re comparing it to a practice test). Honestly, you’ll just get smarter so I’m fairly certain if you practice the month before the test again your senior year, you’ll be fine. I raised my 720 to an 800 without too much effort.

Good luck.

You’re in the 800 ballpark. You should continue to read or change your strategy. Read the blurb, then scan the questions for line numbers and underline/bracket them. Helped me focus better. GL

I will definitely try that. thanks

I’ve already done all the bluebook passages unfortunately. Are there any other practice tests you recommend?

I think the Princeton’s 11 practice tests are pretty good. The online course is said to have great practice tests but it is much more expensive compared to the aforesaid Princeton book.

Thank God I was too stingy to exhaust the BB (only took the first practice test, stopped, read more and memorized more vocabs and did the Princeton practice tests and came back to the second practice test) so now I have like 8 practice tests inact :P
