I just received my score 1220( no previous studying :(( ). My ideal score is 1300 or around there. To raise my score 80 points, how long should I study and when should I start? I plan on retaking in October.
Reading and writing: 660
Math:560
Issues: My main problem was time. I knew the stuff but keeping up with time was really difficult. Math is also not my strong suit at all.
Well I am an international student and my curriculum was different than the American curriculum. Since I wanted to study in US, I started to study for SAT on my own (no tutors, no previous knowledge about sat etc.). I took a practice test in the beginning of June and I got a score like you (I believe it was 1260 or something around that). The thing I did first after taking the PSAT was to determine which topics I was struggling with. After clearly seeing what I need to focus on, I started to practice them. If I knew the topic I just practiced with sample questions and if I had problems remembering the topic I went through my books or online and watch a couple of videos. I basically just focused on improving my skills, starting from my weaknesses.
At the beginning of July I took one more practice test and I was able to get a 1400! So it only took me a month to improve my score by nearly 140 points.
The key of being successful at these kind of tests is consistent work. The time period you need and your score improvement depends on your work. I think if you have intense study sessions for 1-2 hours everyday, you will be able to get more than 1300.
I also suggest you to create a study plan for yourself considering how much you want to improve and stick with that. Be calm, believe in your work and the energy you put in. Positivity is very important!
I am also planning to take the SAT in October! Good luck on your exam
I am planning on taking the SAT in August and being a month away from the test I feel very frustrated, I took it two times before and got 1130 first time (Math-660 and 470 on the English part) Thes second time I got 1180 (650 for math and 550 for English) When I super scored it I got 1210 which was still very low for me. Any advice on how I should use my recourses As u said U improved to around 1400 in a month and I’m planning to get there, should I invest in courses online or use another way to improve my scores?
I got a 1350 the first time (EBRW: 630, Math: 720) and that’s because I made silly mistakes in math and didn’t do much practice for EBRW. I’m an advocate of practice makes perfect. You have until October to improve your score. Also, I recommend aiming higher, like a 1400. Even if you don’t achieve that score (I hope you do!), you won’t be too upset as long it’s above that 1300 threshold.
Since your lower score is in the math section, I think a 650+ is certainly doable. It’s easier to get a higher score in Math rather than EBRW. Practice, practice, practice. Figure out your weaknesses. Is time the problem? Probability getting you down?
All in all, you got this! I believe in you! Best of luck.
I got a 1520 on the SAT with pretty minimal studying. The one thing that improved my score wildly was using an online Kaplan course. If you have the resources/time (they run for about $800 for the one I chose) it will teach you all the strategy and content you need to know. Also, don’t worry if you are pressed for time because I did my whole course in one week. There is no better way to learn the strategy to beat the game that is the SAT. NOT SPONSORED by Kaplan LOL. If you have any more questions about my studying let me know
If you have a Princeton Review nearby, I think they gauarentee you to improve your score 200 points or you get your money back. Pretty realistic actually with the proper dedication.
I used Khan, Princeton Review books and the College Board released books to study, along with some minimal help from a tutor (basically just gave me more material to practice from), and got a 1580. It seems like you just need to take practice tests to get accustomed to the format of the test and pacing, so use the 8 College Board released tests that Khan has on their website as pacing. It will also personalize training for you based on what questions you missed if you sync your CB account with Khan, which can prove helpful. For you, I’d focus more on taking practice tests to get used to format, and then practicing specific topics based on what you miss on the tests.
Khan academy is a blessing. If you can force yourself to put in 15-30 minutes a day and take a couple practice tests, you’ll almost certainly raise your score. I went from a 1420 to a 1570 in three months by doing about 20 minutes a day and only two practice tests. It’s free which is amazing, and customizes to your trouble areas.
Hello! I am also planning on taking the SAT on October. I scored 1180 on my last SAT but didnt study at all… Right now I really need to iprove but I dont know how. I have been practicing with Khan and doing College Board practice tests for reading only and I plan on doing English next week. I feel am worried :((
