Since I’m receiving my scores tomorrow I expect to get between +1250-1350(more likely) and +1350-1400(less likely).
How can I raise that score by 100 or 200 points with just Khan academy and YouTube videos? (I cannot get prep books for it due to financial circumstances, and the Library that offers this kind of books in my only has books for the old test).
I want to raise my essay scores too since I didn’t know how to get prepared for it and I had no mentors who could give me any feedback anyway.
I found Khan Academy quite helpful; it doesn’t matter whether you do the same questions over and over again because you know that some questions you will get wrong again (it becomes a review of the concept). For the reading section, I was told by a student advisor that the best way is to read a lot of high-level nonfiction books (however, I do not know whether you have that much time). What sections do you have problems with? Do you have any problems with managing time?

@penguinlover20 time management is my main problem, I just can’t get through everything as much as I want, then reading comes by because english is not my first language and I can’t conceive how reading high level material will allow me to answer complex reading questions, math and writing & grammar are the least concerns, but as I told you time kills me. What do you recommend me?
(I took 3 out of 4 practice tests available btw)
@AroundHere thanks I’ll look for it
Since English is not your first language, it’s more important for you to read a lot. Of course reading helps you; coming into contact with a lot of books will help decrease your time reading passages, learn new vocab, and understand more complex materials. I’m not saying you should blindly run through books; you should read each one carefully and match your reading level as you go. If you have trouble with the time allotment in WG, it’s probably because of the reading passages there too. If you have trouble with math, I can’t think of any better way than to do lots of problems while timing yourself. For math, I believe that sheer practice makes perfect (unless there’s a concept you’re having trouble on).
@penguinlover20 thanks for your advice, I will start to put it in practice right away. (As I was expecting I got 630math 620reading and I flunked my essay :S 9/24)
By the way, I’ll be taking math II and physics in October and the sat again in November, do you think it’s a good idea to study both of them at the same time? (I’m a high-school graduate and I’m going to start volunteering all weekends next month so I have a lot of time for preparing myself).
@penguinlover20 which books do you recommend me to read?
Usually nonfiction books, unless you have trouble with the literature passage of the Reading. It kind of depends on which passages you have trouble on: science, history/social, etc. Maybe you should try reading historical speeches or scientific essays. Also, you know your reading level the best. By the way, Lifehack claims that books widen your vocabulary, help you find new models for academic writing, improve your cognitive skills, let you remember grammar and punctuation rules automatically, and help you learn a subject better.
Good luck!
@penguinlover20 Thanks for helping me!
