University of Michigan- offers very very limited need based aid to international students.

Northwestern University- offers need based aid to only a small number of international students. Will not cover international travel at all. Need aware for international students.

Northeastern University- offers no need based aid to international students

USC- offers no need based aid to international students.

University of Chicago- need aware for international students. But if you plan to apply for aid, you must do so at the time you apply for admissions.

Yale- offers need based aid to international students and is need blind for admissions. Your application will be reviewed in the international pool of applicants (which is typically a very strong one with very low % off accepted students).

In my opinion, if this comprises you entire college application list, and you require need based aid to attend. You have picked a poor list of schools. Two don’t give need based aid at all. Two give limited need based aid. Five are need aware for admissions (meaning your ability to pay will be considered when your application for admissions is considered). Chicago meets international need but is need aware, Yale is both need blind and meets full need.

If you NEED need based aid, two schools won’t provide it at all (NEU and USC), and Michigan and NW offer very limited need based aid to international students.

None of the schools on your list are a slam dunk for you.

if you are lucky enough to get accepted to Yale or Chicago, you need to apply for aid as an incoming freshman, and yes, if eligible, you could receive it.

If you are lucky enough to get accepted to Michigan or NU and are lucky enough to be in that very limited number of students who get need based aid, yes, you could get it freshman year. But it is limited funding for international students…your full need might not get met.

Northeastern and USC…if you need aid to attend, don’t apply there. They don’t give aid to international students…unless I’m reading their websites incorrectly.
