How to Resolve this Problem

Hey guys,

Well I would sincerely appreciate advice on how to solve a problem I got myself into this summer. Basically, I emailed a few professors from my local med center askinng if they had positions for a HS Senior in a lab. One sent me a positive email back asking me for a time frame that I could work in. I replied to the email and waited a week...no response. I gave him another 4 days and still he didnt respond. So, I assumed that he decided he didnt want me in his lab, so I started emailing another batch of professors. This time I found a new doctor who wanted to take me in. I gave her my transcript and resume, and she let me pick which research project that I wanted to spend time on. Now, we just have an interview on June 3rd to finalize everything. Well, 2 days after that, the first doctor emailed me back asking if I could meet with him this week. I have no idea what to do. I mean things aren't finalized with the other doctor, but should I just tell him that I'm working with someone else? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Robbie

I would tell him that I’m working with someone else. Eleven days is more than enough time for him/her to shoot a one-liner email to you. I would have assumed the same thing and moved on.

It’s completely reasonable to say “thank you, but I’ve foudn another position”. Don’t burn any bridges-you should still be polite, but that time of disorganization may come down in future recommendations, etc, being ‘on time’.

all variables and constants=0 solved.

Yeah just tell first doctor that you’ve found somebody else, and thank him for the opportunity.
