There's also bigwords.com and Ebay. I search through several search engines to get the best price.

but this lists all of them!

I've also been told to use half.com and amazon's textbook section to get good discounts. ;-)

Yeah, you can find lots of bargains on half.com

You just have to be careful that you get the right copyright date.

youd have to be a fool not to buy and resell your books somewhere such as half.com. people are amazed when i tell them how little i end up spending on my books and that i get 90% of my money back!

bookfinder4u.com is the best site, simply because you can stick in an ISBN and search something like 74 sites at once. I highly, highly recommend it.

Also, what I often do is just go and buy the books used from the bookstore, then come home and find them cheaper on-line, after which I return the bookstore copies for a full refund. For example, I did this yesterday with a French textbook I need for next semester. Used from the bookstore was $46.50, but I bought a copy on-line that appears to be in better shape for $23.79, including shipping.

I go through the hassle of buying, then returning because of something you incoming freshman are about to learn about shortly: Campus bookstores are evil. At most campuses, you are not allowed to browse the aisles or write down titles/ISBNs. They don't want you taking the information and going on-line to get cheaper books. Doing it this way saves me the aggravation of getting ISBNs from professors who are away for the summer, or dealing with the bookstore wenches when they start confiscating my notebook for writing down ISBNs.

HAHA: I went to Goodwill and bought a Biology book for $1.50.

The same book I bought, retails for $117.00 at Barnes&Noble

Good, but the likelihood of anyone else having that happen is almost nonexistant. Having to find the right edition, the right CD-ROM extra (if your instructor requires it), all pages intact, no water damage, etc. isn't as easy as running down to the local thrift shop. Glad it was for you, though!

Thank you for the suggestions about finding inexpensive books. We were not familiar with the gettextbooks and bookfinder4u sites. My dd has emailed her instructors, requesting info about texts for her classes and we plan to use these sites! Thanks again!
