What is the best way to send an additional letter of recommendation? I have a PDF of the rec, and can email it or have the recommender email it. Would this be just as acceptable as mailing a paper copy?

Harvard’s fileroom (fileroom@fas.harvard.edu) DOES NOT open email attachments, so the best way is to have the recommender mail it via post.

Thanks for the tip, gibby. Would it be acceptable to print it out and mail it myself? The PDF has a formal letterhead.

Otherwise I’d probably be obliged to mail a stamped envelope to the recommender so he wouldn’t have to pay for postage. This would delay the actual mailing of the rec for at least three days, I think.

I called and asked this particular question today.

In addition to mailing, you can also fax the recommendation in. This might be an easier route than snail-mailing it, if you have access to a fax machine.

^^ Thanks for that Seriwe. Yes, faxing is acceptable, as well. Most computers these days don’t come with fax modems, so you may have to go to a copy-center and pay to have it faxed.

Yeah, my GC tried to send my supplementary rec electronically along with the standard ones, but Naviance/Common App wouldn’t let him.

So he just printed it out and mailed it himself from the school. This seems like the best way, because if you send it yourself Harvard would actually have to call the person to verify the rec, which they probably don’t want to have to do.
