Hi, mail is fine. Before you ask any more questions about teacher recommendations, please read the thread about teacher recommendations. I'm sure that everything you want to know about teacher recs will be found there.

You could just submit your application online, and just send in the teacher rec. through mail.

Or you can just have the teacher send it online...that's the easiest. Im not using any thing on paper this year...its all online (common app at least)

In our school district, the student submits the Common App. online and then informs the Guidance Office of the date, time, and name of school (with the address of the Admission's Office. The Guidance Office then submits a packet from the office which includes hard copies of: Student's Resume, Student's Official Transcript, Teacher Recommendations, Guidance Counselor Recommendation, and a profile of the high school. It's the student's responsibility to gather the paperwork and to make sure that his/her file is complete in the guidance office so that they can prepare the "packet". Once the file is complete, it's easy for the Guidance Counselor to send out the information to multiple colleges. It seems to be a more professional way to go about it because the information is mailed from the high school and nicely "packaged". This is a public high school is case you were wondering.

^ Well, the admissions office I guess likes the package like that but then they take it and rip it to pieces before retyping everything their own way.

Remember most of the time the applicant's file is just a 1 page document - everything from recommendations to extracurriculars to grades/transcript to scores to school profile. They read all the things, transfer it onto a piece of paper with little boxes, and then go over it.

At some schools where they pay closer attention to the individual they dont do that, but at many large state schools or a school like Princeton for example they just have 1 page per applicant, so all the fancy stuff is meaningless since it just goes in the trash anyway

I didn't realize that transcripts, recommendations, resume, and school profile were "fancy stuff and meaningless." I respectfully disagree with the above poster and suggest that ritang speak directly with the guidance counselor as to how his specific school handles college applications.

Recommendations and transcripts should not be sent by the student. They should be sent directly from the school.

I agree, reco's come directly from teachers and GC, not through the student.
