This is the message I see under ‘Tax Returns’ in my application status.
Documentation may be sent via PDF attachment to financial_aid@brown.edu, be faxed to 401-863-7575 or mailed to Brown University Office of Financial Aid, Box 1827, Providence, RI 02912.
Also on Brown’s website I have seen that it participates in the iDOC Service (Used for sending tax returns). My question is, How should I send my parents tax returns?
If Brown doesn’t mention submitting via iDOC at this point then I wouldn’t use it. Maybe you can only do that if you submit prior to the application deadline or something. Never heard of the iDOC service before.
I agree with bruno14. seems like Brown will work with you and receive the docs via whatever means is easiest. If they ‘ask’ you to use idoc, then do it. the idoc code ‘H’ is not included for Brown, but it looks like they still accept idoc documents.
The advantage, for some, to IDOC is that you can use one submission to IDOC to generate submission to a bunch of different schools. It seems that Brown will accept IDOC, as a convenience to applicants, but doesn’t seem to require it if it is more convenient to an applicant. This is just my surmise based on the above posts, but seems consistent with what Brown posted. IDOC was sort of a pain, but for admission applications, going to multiple schools, it was a timesaver.
@bruno14 I guess I am really overthinking it. So if I decide to fax or email them my parents tax returns, do I need to attach a plain sheet of paper in front of the documents (with my applicant id, name and stuff) or does Brown have a specific cover page for that purpose? I hope I get my query across.
Thanks a lot people.
I would assume you are considered to be part of 2015-2016 since you are applying now (2015-2016) not in 2016-2017, but it appears others are more familiar with the system so I’ll defer to them.
