hey everyone! i’m a high school student who has just created a new local environmental club. one of our campaigns is to raise money for water bottles in flint, michigan (haha creative, i know), as the crisis is still ongoing and the government stopped distributing bottled water to residents in april. another of our campaigns is to donate eco-friendly menstrual products to homeless women (a mouthful, i know). obviously we need money to fund these projects, but all i can think of are bake sales…
where should i start? should i contact my local town government with a pitch or something? how do fundraisers even go usually (i’m thinking of generic things like town marathons, but idk lol)? i have no idea what i’m doing, so any advice would be helpful! thanks in advance!
Places like Chipotle, Panera, Moe’s, and local businesses have fundraisers where you’ll get a certain % of the proceeds for everybody who comes in and buys food and mentions your group (Chipotle is the most generous, it’s 33% which isnt as high as it used to be but most other places are 10-20)
I’d contact your school administration for in-school things like bake sales or drives because they often have a schedule of which groups are allowed to do those things on certain days.
You should also look into saver’s fundraising. Basically, you gather up all your unwanted stuff and donate it to them and they’ll give your group money based on the weight of the stuff. My choir got a pretty good amount of money from doing this as we encouraged everybody to bring in bags of stuff they didn’t need anymore.
I think these are good ways to start small to raise money before going on a broader scale. I wish you the best of luck because those are both really amazing causes
