How to show interest in business without taking any "business" courses.

When I was entering high school, I was deciding between Chinese and Entrepreneurship for my second elective (the first was Spanish). I decided to go with Chinese, 1) because I enjoy languages and 2) because I figured it would be more useful than Entrepreneurship in the long run when it came to business, especially since I heard the class was a joke.

Anyway, I am now a sophomore and seriously thinking about applying to (top-tier) business schools, but I am very nervous now about the fact that I don't have any business classes and therefore, can't join FBLA. So I am wondering, how can I demonstrate my interest for business despite the fact that I haven't taken any so-called business classes?

Can you join DECA?
I went to Nationals as a junior without any business classes.

No DECA chapter at my school. I thought a business class was a requirement to join, anyway.

Maybe open up a small business?
Any other business classes you can take?

Before you go to one of the best business schools, you really should take a class.

I chose to take Chinese with business in mind. It was a conscious decision to take that class over Computer Apps or Entrepreneurship. What I am saying now is that my decision making process won’t be evident to colleges. As of this year, both my electives are filled. I suppose maybe next year I can take gym after school to add another course to my schedule.

Chinese is very smart to take.

Perhaps an internship?

I was just hoping that colleges would appreciate it. And I’ve been thinking about interning for the last month or so. My mother has many connections within large insurance companies, but other than utilizing those connections, do I just start cold calling/ emailing companies?

Daggs13: I am in the same position as you. Anyone have suggestions?

Summer programs might work wonders. I know that my state has an annual “Business Week” - that might be something to look into.
An internship, if you can get one, would look even better. Unfortunately, I don’t have experience with those, so I can’t answer your last question!

Our school doesn’t have DECA or FBLA so I plan on starting my own company. I have taken Web Design and Graphic Design in order to have experience on how to create a website. Just some ideas for you guys.

I went to business and entrepreneurship academy (camp) 2 years years and my team won the case study, then the next year I came back as a junior mentor. I also went to an Issue for Future Leaders program (mostly focused on business) and my group won. And I’ve talked to the people in the business school at a local university I’m applying for and looked at a dual degree program they have. (I’ve gone out there to meet them twice and went to high school junior open house at the school of business)
