How do you show interest to a college? Especially if they don't have an ED option..

You can email the admissions officers, visit, have an interview, write a very good supplemental essay, and apply EA if they have that. Anything that tells the college you thought more about it than just putting it on your list as a safety.

Before you start, you should determine if the colleges in question value this sort of thing at all. Many do not.

What schools are you speaking about?

I would just email the admissions councilor/officer for your area. The school I really want to get into has different admissions councilors for each region of the country. I don’t know if all schools have this, but if yours do, then build a relationship with that admissions councilor. Email them lots of questions. Get their business card if you meet them in person.

Like them on facebook, request information, and if possible visit or interview for the school. Btw, try to show interest at all schools if possible. Some schools increase merit aid for students that took some action towards contacting the school. Some schools that consider interest (Check the CDS section C7 to see if a school takes it into account) have a check box on their common app supplement to see which, if any, actions the applicant took regarding showing interest.

For instance, here’s Emory’s common app supplement (go to the last page)
http://www.emory.edu/home/_docs/Emory%20Common%20App%20Instructions%20and%20Form.pdf
As you can see there are multiple check boxes that show how an applicant could have demonstrated interest in the school, an important factor for admissions.

"then build a relationship with that admissions councilor. Email them lots of questions. Get their business card if you meet them in person. "

Before venturing on this stalker strategy: FIND OUT IF “DEMONSTRATED INTEREST” IS OF ANY VALUE TO THEM (like I said in post 3). The tip top schools (Ivies & CMS, etc.) place NO value on “demonstrated interest”.

And whatever you do – even if you apply to a school which does value demonstrated interest – don’t pepper the admissions officers with questions you can easily find off their website. That’d be just stupid.
