How to show interest

How do you show your interest in Lehigh. I already did a visit, emailed my admissions counsler, and am going to do a interview. Should I email a professor in the field I am interested in?

If you haven’t done so yet, sign up on the email list, if Lehigh visits your HS or gives a presentation in your area then attend. Otherwise you look to be set in the “demonstrated interest” category. I would not email a professor.

I signed up for the email list. But why shouldn’t I email a professor? I also did not get a response from my admissions counsler.

Don’t email unless you have a very specific question, not just to “show interest” which you have already done.

What did you email the admission counselor? How long ago was it? Remember it’s the summer and some folks may be taking some much needed vacation time.

I emailed her what I loved about the university and then asked 4 specific questions about thing I wanted to know. It was 3 days ago

Relax…1) Admissions officers are allowed to take vacations 2) Admissions officers get tons of emails and may not have time to respond to each one.

And in terms of emailing a professor, IMO that is something you should do only if you have a very specific history of interest and engagement in a particular area that a professor is doing research in. Don’t send a general email saying something like “I want to be a biology major and you are a biology professor, can you tell me about the department?” or anything along those lines. The professor’s job is to engage with and teach students who are at the school, not to be auxiliary admissions officers.

Again, I believe you have demonstrated sufficient interest through your visit, interview, email list, etc. If there is a “why Lehigh” question on the supplement be sure to answer it thoughtfully.

But of course it is your application so do as you wish.

The ultimate show of interest is an ED application if that is feasible.

Profs aren’t there to answer random questions from hs kids.

The best way to show interest isn’t simple things like an email or mailing list. It’s in knowing the most you can about a college, what it does, what it values, carefully finding the match (not just what you want,) and showing it in the app. (SHow, not just tell.)

You can send all the emails in the world, visit repeatedly, chat with a prof…and if the app doesn’t show you a match, that’s that. And that’s more than stats and dreams.

Ok thanks. I will make sure to write a good why Lehigh essay. And does an on campus interview look better than a off campus one

No…since you visited campus already it shouldn’t matter.
