So, I've basically fallen in love with Reed. I've poured over all the literature I can find and have visited the website almost obsessively. Everything I read just makes me adore it more. (So much so that when I went to type 'read,' I actually typed 'reed'.)

My question is how do I show Reed that I have an interest? For financial reasons, I cannot fly to Portland (I live in Chicago) to stay overnight. I have an off-campus interview, but is there anything else I can do other than apply ED which I also can't do for financial reasons.

Thank you so much!

Your off campus interview can help.

Your demonstrating that you would contribute to and benefit from the Reed experience, both through your background and what you say in your essays will also be important.

You've got several shots to tell your story in your application essays. Here are the most relevant ones, which I copied from the Reed Supplement questions to the Common Application:

Personal Statement. Answer one of the essay options on the Common Application OR answer any question from another college’s application. Be sure to state the question you are answering on the same page as your essay. If you already wrote a personal statement on the Common Application, you aredone with this essay, unless you choose to submit a second personal statement
.

“Why Reed?” essay. How did you first become interested in Reed, and why do you think Reed would be an appropriate place, both academically and socially, to continue your education? (This essay is instrumental in helping the admission committee determine the match between you and Reed, so please be thorough.)

If there are any special issues or academic concerns that you feel have not been adequately covered in the application, or if you would like to supply further information to the Admission Committee, please elaborate.
