I'm applying for Masters and PhD in Computer Science in the US for Fall 2011. I have research experience in many occasions, but how do I show this on my application? Note that I don't have any publications yet but currently preparing one to be submitted next year.

The recommendation letters from my research supervisors will, of course, mention my research experience with them. Other than that, are applicants generally expected to do any of the following:

Send in their written (unpublished) work in hard copy.

Put some written work on a website and send them the URL.

Mention our research experience (in how much detail?) in the statement of purpose.

For more information, I'm an international student applying for (top 10) CS departments. I believe that my recommendation letters should be very strong, and grades should be sufficient as well. However my GRE score is 410V, 800M, 4.0W. I emailed the admissions secretary (at Stanford) about this and she said that my verbal/writing scores "suffice" for admission to their program.

That being said, I can probably improve these scores if I retake them now (there is not much time left). But this would require studying for the exam and I'm not sure if this would be worth it, just to increase my verbal/writing scores. Does anyone have any insights/comments on this? How important are english scores in admission?

Thanks in advance for any posts.
