How to show they're your number one RD?

Right now Im not sure what my first choice school is. I thought I wanted to do ED at cornell. Because im so indecisive, im going to just apply RD there. But I think when I do apply it will still be my first choice. If that is my first choice, or if I decided another RD school is my 1st, is there something i can do to show them that. To say that i'm not using them as a safety and if i get in i definetely will accept, to tell them that I love their school. Does anybody know?

Just be really sincere in your Why Cornell essay, and feel free to mention that it is your first choice in your essays (I did, and I applied RD to all even my first choice). Don't say "Cornell is my first choice" point blankly, but work it in obliquely. I have extended family near my school, so I said, "When I told my family on Long Island that Columbia was my first choice, they were excited at the prospect of having me in the area" or something to that effect. Good luck.

Visit campus, mention the campus visit in your Why Cornell essay, and if at all possible do an interview. While Cornell's alumni meeting is technically not an "interview," an alumnus is one person you CAN tell point blank that Cornell is your first choice and that you will definitely attend if you get in. There's nothing a loyal alumnus likes better than hearing an enthusiastic, well-informed student say, in all honesty, that the alma mater is the student's dream school. Then you hope that they pass that info along.
