how to sign up for an online class (in high school)

hi, i’m a high school junior, and over the summer i was hoping to take an online physics class. i understand that a 4th year of science is important to colleges, but i don’t have room to fit it in my senior schedule, so i want to take a course over the summer. however, i have no idea how to go about this.
does anyone have some advice on how to find an online physics class that a high schooler can take over the summer? i just have no idea where to begin…
thanks for your feedback!!

smwhtslghtlydzed, you’re looking to earn credit for the physics class, right? I have taken plenty of online classes my junior and senior year through Michigan Virtual High School. Search for an virtual high school of your state. Also, you’ll need to talk to your guidance counselor to ensure summer credit for the class and he or she will probably help you. I’ve taken classes through MIVHS (Michigan) and FLVHS (Florida), so I’m sure that even if your state doesn’t have an online high school you can take online classes from different states. Also, the courses cost less when you buy them through your school (and makes it easier to earn the credit too), so definitely talk to your guidance counselor.

smwhtslghtlydzede: have you had any luck with this? I have spent no less than 15 hours searching for a class for my daughter (also high school junior who wants to take physics). I have found that quite a few of the local colleges and junior colleges offer online classes, so I would definitely check that out. We live in Calif. so there is one both at Stanford and through CAL extension. They are quite rigorous however. So far, I haven’t found one that works for us yet, timing wise. Any othe suggestions would be welcome!

no luck, unfortunately. i tried looking for virtual high schools and extensions of local colleges but i didn’t find anything that i thought would work. i’ve decided just to skip physics and take bioethics next year since i can fit that in, and i can always take physics in college. good luck with your own search!
