<p>Hey, my school does not have a debate team right now and I really want to start one next year as a sophomore. Can anyone give me tips on how I should start one and what organizations the team should join? Also, how fun is debate team?</p>
<p>I think debate is a lot of fun, also hilarious. Depends on the person though.
Unless you already have a coach and people that debate, maybe a good way to start would be to find an organisation willing to run a day/evening taster or starter session to attract interest and give you all somethign to work with. I know the English Speaking Union do a lot of things like this, but I don’t knoe if you’d be able to find a similar organisation.</p>
<p>I’m a member of my school’s newly formed debate team. Basically, you need to find a teacher sponsor, at least through my school’s system. They can register with th National Forensic League which deals with speech and debate. The NFL posts topics and tournament dates, in which you can register to attend. Debate is one of the most memorable experiences I will have from high school. It is so much fun, and everyone bonds. Truly great. Good luck!</p>
