How to start looking at classes?

Hi everyone, I have been seeing some posts recently about classes and schedules for freshmen this fall. I was wondering how one would begin picking and choosing the classes they would like to register for. Could someone help me with some basic steps? I am completely lost :(

I dont understand what classes AP credit exempts you from... or the major and GE requirements .... any help would be greatly appreciated :)

oh, im a freshman this fall also.... dobbs hall if anyone would like to comment on that

Here is the freshman specific catalog, you could basically see what classes you like and sort of piece together a schedule. Also the blackboard units provide assistance in scheduling, classes, GER, etc…

[Fall 2011 Course Atlas listing for First Year Students | Emory College | Atlanta, GA](<a href=“Welcome to Emory College.”>Welcome to Emory College.)

does that mean i can only piece together a schedule from these classes? thanks for the help!

Yea you could piece together a schedule based on times, days, etc.

You’ll need to take a Freshman seminar class and a writing class. One each semester, here is the catalog for those classes.

[First-Year Seminar Classes (FSEM) Courses for GER requirement - Area I - Fall 2011 | Emory College | Atlanta, GA](<a href=“Welcome to Emory College.”>Welcome to Emory College.)

[First-Year Writing Requirement (FWRT) Courses for GER requirement - Area II - Fall 2011 | Emory College | Atlanta, GA](<a href=“Welcome to Emory College.”>Welcome to Emory College.)

ok thanks again! But I think i read somewhere that if you got a 4 or 5 in AP lit or AP lang you could exempt the freshman writing requirement. Is that true?

And I have gotten all fives so far in:
AP BIO
AP USH
AP WORLD H
AP LANG
AP CALC BC

what course could i exempt?

Emory does not generally grant credit in any fashion for World History (there is no equivalent and most schools won’t take it as there is hardly any such specialty as “world history”. Any study of history is “world history”). I believe Emory does not grant GER credit for any type of history exam for that matter. It simply goes toward the 128 hours required for graduation. Emory will take biology, as biol 141 credit. AP lang will exempt you from the frosh writing requirement. AP Calc BC exempts and grants credit for Calc. 1 and 2.

AP Credit Policy is stated here: http://www.emory.edu/admission/admission/first_year_application/ap_ib_college_credit_policies.html</a></p>
