I want to get ahead on college essays and apply to jobs but I just can't bring myself to do it. I also need to start doing daily prep for the SAT but I only commit to it for a couple of days at a time before I get lazy again.

Please share with me your tips on how to be productive and defeat laziness! I'm not a slug, I'm just motivationally challenged :)

I also have problems with being unmotivated. I’ll commit myself to achieving a goal, work really hard at it for a couple days, then completely blow it off for a couple weeks.

A good way to stay motivated is to remind yourself why you’re doing this in the first place. For example, if it’s SAT studying you’re concerned with, do you have a PSAT or SAT score that you are unhappy with? If so, take a picture of that score and keep it near you at all times. Whenever you feel like slacking off or doing something else, take out the picture and look at it. Tell yourself, “this is why I need to study”, ask yourself “is this really the best I can do?”, and just constantly remind yourself that you set a goal for a reason.

It’s a little different for the job thing. Maybe keep your (empty) wallet close to you and remind yourself that it’s well…empty, and the longer you put it off the longer it will stay empty.

I don’t know. Just some suggestions that have worked for me.

Good luck.

Thanks! Now I’ll probably spend a day plastering my wall with evidence of my shortcomings and forget to look at it ever again ;)

you can try going on the summer progress thread and posting there. it helps

maybe…write out a to-do list. Make it manageable though. Copy it and put it everywhere so you get your stuff done just to make the list go away. Or have a family member or friend bug you constantly if you don’t get done what you need to do. Its not as good as being motivated because it’s fun but it works.
