Hi guys! I’m currently a sophomore in high school and i’m a big procrastinator. I try to be productive but i always end up procrastinating. I’ll go on my phone or i would just keep giving myself more and more time between tasks. Any tips/advice?
Give your mom your phone until you’re done with the assignment.
Tell yourself that you can do your work at the last minute, dreading all the time leading up to it or do the work now and enjoy the free time you have afterwards before handing it in. And you are likely to do a better job if you do it first.
Honestly, this is a habit you need to develop. It involves discipline. Take a look at the book “That crumpled piece of paper was due last week”. @bjkmom 's technique is one thing suggested.
Know deadlines and determine how much time you will need to complete a task. Developing a good sense of how much time something takes is very well important in school, work or life. These are the parameters within which you must work. Practically and miserably, approaching a deadline and not getting panicky, can include learning how to edit, narrowing the topic, selecting better vocabulary and eliminating words that don’t improve meaning, using an active writing style, etc. Stacking helped me. As I completed an assignment, I put it on a pile on the edge of a desk or table. That way I could see completed work and not lose it either. It also helped to complete work before moving on so I wouldn’t lose my train of thought or get stuck with lots of partials. If you are getting bored or tired, try something easy such as playing space invaders, solitare, hangman on the computer. Before long, homework will look enticing and you will have dissipated nervous energy. Never lose sight of the importance of chocolate ice cream.
Read this book: How to Become a Straight-A Student: The Unconventional Strategies Real College Students Use to Score High While Studying Less by Cal Newport. It helps you with things like time management and how to figure out what to write about for a paper, etc.
