I always fall asleep when I study... especially when I am on my couch. But that's really the only comfortable spot I have to study. How do I stop falling asleep and be more productive??

when I know I have to read I sit at my desk or the library. If I read in my bed I have to seat myself uncomfortably or I’ll fall asleep

Find a place where you know you’ll stay focused. Preferably where you have to sit straight. Whenever I need to read I go outside to the patio with the book and a drink and don’t leave until I’m done.

Drink coffee.

Try to change your sleeping pattern like take a quick nap before studying so you’ll stay awake

I used to fall asleep until I stopped reading the words and started to only look at the pictures and diagrams.

But that doesn’t work so well in a religious studies class, where the textbook is the Bible

Find time to study at a time where you’re not as likely to fall asleep. Most students I know study at around 9pm-1am. But I wake up at ~5:30am each day, so needless to say that type of study schedule does not work for me!

If you absolutely must study while tired put yourself in a spot that’s not ask comfortable. A desk, a table, etc. Take yourself to a public spot like a library or a classroom.

force yourself to do push ups or sit ups, get’s the testosterone flowin

Get more sleep at night.

I study in a place I would be uncomfortable falling asleep- I used to study at the beach (wouldn’t sleep there alone for obvious reasons), but now I study at school or in a coffee shop.

If youre tired I would also recommend a quick 15-20 minute nap. Sleep upright and plug in headphones set to blast an alarm and max volume. Works for me.

This. And if you believe that you are getting enough rest yet you still fall asleep during the day, see a doctor.

If the OP was anything like me they would go to sleep and when they hear the alarm turn it off and go right back to sleep. Maybe it will work for them, but for me, certainly not.

I agree with the above, that you should be getting enough sleep at night. But studying can be boring at times, thus making you sleepy. Try and do it in other places with headphones and lively music. Library? Don’t study on your bed or your couch if you are tempted to go to sleep on them. Do a place that is comfortable, but not comfortable enough to go to sleep.

I try and avoid coffee and caffeine as the solution.
